split-level house :: process

The design of this house emerged out of the steep 40′ drop over the length of the site, which has roads on either end. The entire region is quite hilly, with beautiful rock views, especially from the top end. The lower road was planned as a service road, while the upper road serves at the main entrance. From the main entrance, the house appears to be a squat, single-storied structure. Navigation happens in two ways. Stairs within the house gradually lead into its seemingly subterranean interior. An external side ramp/stairs also descend onto the roof garden on the second level, providing amazing views as you climb downward.
