As a part of a series of design explorations inspired by geometry, origami and tailoring, HexaFlex is a dynamic pouf in the form of a hexaflexagon. Flexagons are flat models, usually constructed by folding strips of paper, that can be flexed or folded in certain ways to reveal faces besides the two that were originally on the back and front of the paper strip. While folding the flexagon, each new “side” revealed can be tracked by assigning a different pattern or color to it.

Various experiments with different materials and at different scales (including a 1:1 folded paper prototype) led to the design of a soft furnishing piece that is dynamic and ever-changing. The HexaFlex has four distinct states, and each in contrasting patterns that results in an infinitely-rotating surface that is surprising and delightful. The HexaFlex can transform into a completely new pattern or color to change the look of a space, and is not just a piece of furniture, but a toy in itself!
